HEY PLANET, WE GOT YOUR BACK
We’re really into the outdoors, so we’re all about preserving it. In ‘07, we set out to do the unthinkable: make the most environmentally responsible boot we’d ever made—and do it without sacrificing an ounce of rugged durability or style. We called it the Earthkeepers® boot.
BOTTLES IN BOOTS
It seemed crazy at the time, but the Original was made with recycled plastic bottles in its linings (there was a bottle in every pair!) and recycled rubber. And the leather was tanned in ways that are less harmful for the planet.
THINGS GET BIG
The boot was a huge hit—and inspired an entire new collection called, you guessed it: The Earthkeepers® Collection. Everything in the collection was made with the planet in mind. And it grew. And grew. And grew.
TOTAL BRAND TAKEOVER
It grew so much we realized, Hey, why don’t we strive to make every Timberland product the way we make the Earthkeepers® Collection? So, we did. Now, 84% of our footwear includes at least one component that contains recycled, organic or renewable content. 94% of our leather is sourced from LWG Silver or Gold-Rated tanneries. And so far, 270 million plastic water bottles have found a new life in our footwear. We even added new partnerships and materials: THREAD™ Canvas made from plastic bottles found in the streets of Haiti, and TimberDry™ waterproof technology made with recycled plastic.
